Hello Steven,
MRTG get's it's info from the SNMP agent, which gets the information from
the network stack. You are probably looking at packets total in the
router output, and bits or bytes in and out as a rate in MRTG.
The router keeps track of octets (same as bytes, octo=8, 8 bits in a byte)
in and out of any given interface. MRTG just counts this and divides by
the number of seconds since it's last poll, and gives you a rate such as
1.705 Megabits/second.
The output from the router you've pasted is where the router has checked
it's on records and shows you the counters (not rate) for packets (not
octets/bytes). It just shows how many times a packet has passed in or
out, and not the rate they've passed in or out.
