You should examine the RRD file.  Perhaps "rrdtool info" or "rrdtool tune"
will give you the desired info.  "rrdtool dump" would also be a good
candidate for debugging purposes.

It's probably a good idea to do this right now, save the results and
keep them until one of the files misteriously gets altered again.

Also you can then spot the changes in the headers and perhaps even use
those changes to roll them back.  This way you don't loose your data.

Next time also report the RRDtool version, in case it makes a difference.
