[mrtg] "WARNING: could not match&get" error message

MRTG succesfully monitors the traffic of several interfaces of a CISCO
router, BUT fails on a specific port, returning the following error
message:
WARNING: could not match&get 10.97.61.1/IfInOctets for IP 10.97.228.245

A little investigation (using ucd-snmp commands) brought me to discover
that the router is returning different values for the same OID, when
queried using SNMP GET method as opposed to SNMP GET NEXT method !. The OID
involved is "ipAdEntIfIndex" :

# snmpgetnext  10.97.61.1 public
ip.ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntIfIndex.10.97.228.237
ip.ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntIfIndex.10.97.228.245 = 13

# snmpget 10.97.61.1 public
ip.ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntIfIndex.10.97.228.245
ip.ipAddrTable.ipAddrEntry.ipAdEntIfIndex.10.97.228.245 = 69

This inconsistency is likely to cause MRTG to fail. If this is the case,
this is NOT an MRTG problem.
I have no direct control on the router configuration, so I though I might
seek advice from the list ... any suggestion for further investigation
welcome !
