My .pl files are located in the same subdir as MRTG (\mrtg\bin), and when I
start mrtg with scheduler, it's set to run in that path as well. Here is an
example of one of many of my server monitoring configs:
~snip~
Title[IMP_page]:IMP Page File Usage
MaxBytes[IMP_page]: 100
Options[IMP_page]: gauge, nopercent, growright, nolegend, nobanner
Target[IMP_page]: `perl getlog.pl c:\perflogs\IMP.csv "\\IMP\Paging
File(_Total)\% Usage"`
YLegend[IMP_page]: % Usage
ShortLegend[IMP_page]: %
LegendO[IMP_page]: Page File Usage:
LegendI[IMP_page]:
Legend2[IMP_page]:
Legend1[IMP_page]: Page File Use in %
Legend3[IMP_page]: Max Observed Page File %
WithPeak[IMP_page]: ywm
Unscaled[IMP_page]: dwmy
Pagetop[IMP_page]: <H1>IMP Page File Usage</H1>
~snip~
That's a little different from what the MkCfg.pl does. I think it had some
formatting I didn't care for... but yours should work anyway. The only
reason I can think of why yours is not running under the service is because
of the path, I'll bet it can't find getlog.pl. Are you running your MRTG
with -log option? If so, it should output to a log of your choice what
errors its encountering. Those errors are going to be key to discovering
the source of your problem.

Eric

Still having a small problem with this, but maybe I am missing something
simple. I used the mkcfg.pl, works great, created a test.cfg file with
all of the perfmon variables I want to monitor. I can run "perl mrtg
test.cfg" and get no errors and it is creating all of the files I need.
When I add the test.cfg items to my already running mrtg.cfg, NO UPDATES
??? If I run it by hand (perl mrtg mrtg.cfg) perfmon html's update, when
I let the service run the same command, everything but the new perfmon
stats update.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance,

Great info, where did you get the "getlog.pl" ?

I use performance monitor as described in the link above.

Subject: [mrtg] Windows 2000 CPU, Memory Usage
Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone is successfully using MRTG to monitor Windows
2000
servers without installing any 3rd party utilities on the servers being
monitored? I try to use the tools that come with the OS as much as
possible
or until I need more functionality that they can provide. I have seen
posts
mentioning installing SNMP42K, but I would rather *try* to use the
functionality within Win2k SNMP if possible. I am currently able to
monitor
NIC usage and the amount of Disk space used, but am having troubles with
finding the correct OID's for Memory and CPU usage.
Any help would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Ed
