[mrtg] Re: IfIndex on Cisco

I too had the same problem, I didn't want to index the interfaces by IP so I used --ifref=name but when polling with SNMPv2 I was getting no data.  I re-created the config using SNMPv1 and all was well.

Here is the line I used to create the config (that worked).

perl cfgmaker --ifref=name --ifdesc=descr --global "WorkDir:  d:\mrtgdata\data\Router\BCCCHO05R01"  --global "Options[_]: growright,bits"   --descint public at 10.25.4.3>CH7500NAME.cfg

if I have a config reading like:

Target[targetid]: 1:

the interface with the index 1 is monitored.
No, if someone add/delete an interface on that box and reboot it, the
IfIndex might change. AFAIK, in newer versions of IOS there is a feature
"Interface Index Persistence", but I do not own the box that I monitor.
Does anyone know about a way to have mrtg monitoring the right
interface?
