[mrtg] script errors

ok, I am running a couple of scripts from inside mrtg ro 
gather some stuff to log.

it works but I get an error - 

/home/mrtg/scripts/getcmp: invalid character 34 in 
exportstr for "" MRTG_INT_DESCR


the script oputputs a couple of numbers :-

48
34

and I don't get the errors when run the script form 
outside of mrtg.

so what doesn't it like?
or what else does it need?
