Paul,

Would you mind sending me the required config files for setting it up? I
downloaded the package but the documentation is a bit sparse.

RRDTool is packaged with mrtg, right?

How much overhead is incurred, both on the internet in general and on your
own network, when doing all these pings? Are you showering a number of pings
every certain number of minutes on order to generate the performance graphs?

    PCW> For the first question...

PCW> There should have been a config supplied with the script. If not, I
    PCW> can

PCW> post mine. FWIW, the green is MAX RTT and the blue is MIN RTT.

PCW> For the second question, I didn't know ping-probe did packet loss.
PCW> The version I have is 2.2, dated 2001/01/07. Is there a newer
PCW> version that reports packet loss?

    PCW> Paul

    >>>>> "Curtis Kline" <ckline at housing.ucsb.edu> 01/02/02 01:40PM >>>

PCW> Please forgive me if these questions have already been answered on
PCW> this list, I have been unable to find them in the archives.

PCW> With regard to the current version of ping probe, I have a couple
    PCW> questions:

PCW> 1. What is graphed on the blue line vs. the green shaded area? The
PCW> values are wildly different, but I can't seem to determine what each
    PCW> represents.

PCW> 2. I am trying to graph packet loss between my mrtg host and some
PCW> cable modems a couple hops away. When I continuously ping one of the
PCW> modems from the Linux shell on the mrtg host I get 0% packet loss
PCW> over about a 5 minute period. However, ping probe reports 35% loss
PCW> average on the green shaded area and 6% loss average on the blue
PCW> line. In some cases, my max loss on the green shaded area is
    PCW> 101%.. that seems unlikely.

PCW> Can anyone provide some clue as to why this might be the case?

    PCW> Thanks in advance, Curtis
