Hi

I run MRTG on Win2k as a service with no problems. I would recommend using a
free program called Firedaemon to create the service. I have found it to be
far better than SRVANY. It is available from http://www.firedaemon.com

Also on that site is instructions for turning MRTG into a service.

To get it running at the required 5 min interval just make sure the
following lines in your MRTG cfg file.
RunAsDaemon:yes
Interval:5

If you wan't any more questions answered either post to the list or email
me.
HTH

Subject: [mrtg] Running MRTG as service on W2K server

I currently have mrtg 2.9.17 running on a Windows 2000 server and
it works fine but I'd like to run the process as a service instead
of as a CMD executable. So far, I have successfully created a
service using the SRVANY.EXE tool from the Windows 2000 Resource
Kit but it only creates the webpages once upon initial startup of
the service. I am looking for the 5 minute interval that I get
when I execute the CMD file manually.

Has anyone had any success running mrtg as a service on a Windows
2000 server? Any hints suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Again, all works great if I just run it from the CMD line.

Thanks,

David Soden
