[mrtg] strange peaks in graph

I have MRTG 2.9.17 installed (on a RedHat 7.1 box) and i am currently polling around 45-50 routers and some other network devices.
The routers are mostly Riversone RS3000 and RS8000, but also some Juniper M5 routers.

On one of the links (well it does happen on other links too), MRTG shows a peak on around 110mbps...!! (see attachement).
This of course is completely wrong...there is no way the link can put that amount of traffic through...especially not that suddenly.
The pattern of when this happens is fairly regular...around 24h between each peak.

I have no clue on what causes this longer, and i am interested in hearing what you people have to say about it.
