[mrtg] monitoring a ethernet card

Hello all,
I am trying to monitor a ftp server i have running its currently on windows xp
i will be working with mrtg on some linux servers as well but i wan't to get 
a good feel for the configuration files first and i think my xp box running 
the ftp would be a good start
is there a document somwhere that lists what is needed and how to set up mrtg 
to monitor a windows xp box using a network card 
i have read the post on win2k but got lost real bad as i am new to this mrtg
i have looked all over the websites for help/articles on this and can't find 
one

any help at all would be very apreciated
