Hi,

maybe you look at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cipaf/

another resource:
contrib dir of mrtg. look at whodo or cisco_ipaccounting.

If you can mirror the traffic to a monitoring station, you could use
a linux host with nic in promiscuous mode.
There are lots of free programs to get ip accounting out of this.

I'll start a project with NeTraMet soon:
http://www2.auckland.ac.nz/net/Accounting/

bye,

Joerg

hm IMHO it should work with pure accounting.
I just had a look on one of our L3 Switches. I got a command like this:

ip accounting-threshold

in the enable(config) mode. There are 3 different ip accounting- entries.

I didnt test it but I think it should work this way too. But dont ask me
how, I never did it on my own 8)

Absolutely right. I have a Netflow license on my IOS but no HPUx nor Sun
Solaris to run Netflow with. :(

hm about Cisco Routers
as far as I know the Cisco Routers support IP Accounting, but I think there
musst be a "special" kind of IOS on it. I mean there are different levels of
IOS Releases: IP only, Enterprise and so. I think the Enterprise Versions
should support IP Accounting but I dont know which's the lowest "level" that
supports it.

Hi,

thanks for the help. unfortunately ipac-ng is for linux firewalls,
ipchains/tables and stuff i believe. im using pix firewall and cisco
routers. so im looking for an alternative software to Cisco's Netflow.
implementing Netflow is quite costly, considering the requirement (HPUX/Sun
Solaris) while i only have pentium base servers and Linux to play around
with. anyways, thanks for all who shared thoughts.
