Somix Technologies provides a search engine that allows users to locate
OIDs based on keyword searches. They also have an extensive mrtg
template library. http://www.somix.com/software/mrtg/

Generally, you need the vendors' MIB files in order to decode the
meaning of
a numeric OID. The easiest is if you have a graphical MIB browser (such
as
Getif on Windows) that you can load the MIB files into.
I simply pasted the numeric OID into a field in Getif, and it showed me
the
corresponding OID name. Another field showed the OID description. Getif
pulled this information from the MIB file.
There are a number of free or inexpensive graphical MIB browsers for
various
platforms. Check out http://www.snmplink.org/ and click on "Tools" for
some
examples.
It's sometimes hard to find MIB files from a vendor. A good central
source
of vendors' MIB files is http://www.mibcentral.com/.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I've just subscribed to the list and all my experience on
mrtg is two days long. So far, so good. I got my two days long
graphs on my web page!!
I was lookin around on snmp, mrtg, rdd, etc. looking for links,
tips and anything readable to learn a little bit more.
How do you get that the OID
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.1.3.6.1.4.1.232.2.2.2.5.0
is
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.compaq.cpqSystemInfo.cpqSiComp
onen
t.cpqSiAsset.cpqSiSysServiceNum
In fact how do I get the numerical and/or parsed OID for the devices
I want to monitor.
So far, I use snmpwalk and/or snmpget to try to navigate the "tree".
I seems to me that this is a very rudimentary way of getting the info
I need.
Is there any tool/util that lets me know what OIDs are implemnted on a
device and what they mean??
Thanks a lot.
Any help and guidance will ve very appreciated!!!
Sergio
