Hi!

	Maybe this can help you. (Took from reference document that follows
the mrtg)

	MaxBytes
 	"The maximum value either of the two variables monitored are allowed
to reach. For monitoring router traffic this is normally specified in bytes
per second this interface port can carry.
	If a number higher than MaxBytes is returned, it is ignored. Also
read the section on AbsMax for further info. The MaxBytes value is also used
in calculating the Y range for unscaled graphs (see the section on
Unscaled)."

	AbsMax
	"If you are monitoring a link which can handle more traffic than the
MaxBytes value. Eg, a line which uses compression or some frame relay link,
you can use the AbsMax keyword to give the absolute maximum value ever to be
reached. We need to know this in order to sort out unrealistic values
returned by the routers. If you do not set AbsMax, rateup will ignore values
higher than MaxBytes."

	Do not forget that this values are set in bytes not bits. So if you
have a 512Kbits/s link you should reference it as 64KBytes/s.

Regards

Juliano

Subject: [mrtg] How to alter the bandwidth scaling on graphs?

The bandwidth scaling on my graphs seems to be set dynamically.

I'm hoping to set the bandwidth to 100% of 512k (our dedicated bandwidth
size).

I've tried editing the mrtg.cfg file ---

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------

### Interface 1 >> Descr: 'Ethernet0' | Name: 'Et0' | Ip: '193.133.125.222'
| Eth: '00-30-94-e6-25-d3' ###

Target[193.133.125.222_1]: 1:AWEN-UK at 193.133.125.222:
SetEnv[193.133.125.222_1]: MRTG_INT_IP="193.133.125.222"
MRTG_INT_DESCR="Ethernet0"
MaxBytes[193.133.125.222_1]: 5120000
[<-------  set this to "512K"]
Title[193.133.125.222_1]: Traffic Analysis for 1 -- advaworl01-gw.awr.org
PageTop[193.133.125.222_1]: <H1>Traffic Analysis for 1 --
advaworl01-gw.awr.org</H1>
 <TABLE>
   <TR><TD>System:</TD>     <TD>advaworl01-gw.awr.org in </TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Maintainer:</TD> <TD></TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>Description:</TD><TD>Ethernet0  </TD></TR>
   <TR><TD>ifType:</TD>     <TD>ethernetCsmacd (6)</TD></TR>

   <TR><TD>Ip:</TD>         <TD>193.133.125.222
(advaworl01-gw.pipex.net)</TD></TR>
 </TABLE>

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------

Having made these changes, and restarted MRTG which I have running as a
Win32 daemon, this didn't make any difference to the graph showing on the
MRTG generated web page (I did refresh the web page showing in the browser)

Is it _possible_ to set the bandwidth scale to always show 512K max
bandwidth?

PS; having looked at the CFG file again, I realise that I'm just setting
labels for the web page, not altering how the graphs are shown. This
doesn't alter my question though!
