Checkout the deadcat.net.au site, there is a script out there called bb-mrtg
that you will need to integrate mrtg into BB.

It's overkill for just mrtg, but I've successfully used Big Brother
www.bb4.com at numerous locations to do just what your asking, plus it has
numerous other benefits.

Subject: [mrtg] MRTG Alerting
Does anyone know of a package that can send
SMTP based alerts based on certain pre-defined
levels on an MRTG graph? A defined level being
a given # or a % of usage of a particular service.
I guess I could code my own, but it would be nice
if there was a complete, pre-packaged solution on
the market available.
Thanks,
Scott Moseman
