[mrtg] Reversing graphs

I'm aware that I can reverse a graph by putting a '-' in front of the target
string.  Does this only work for SNMP targets?  The vast majority of our
graphs are generated using external scripts feeding data into MRTG, so if I
put a - in front of the script, will this reverse the graph as well?
