I use to make 1 CFG file per familly

For instance
Routers.cfg
Switches.cfg
Servers.cfg
DMZ.cfg
Firewall.cfg
Misc.cfg

I put all the cfg parts (OIDs) I need/want to monitor in these differents
files. Some can be big.
I start the sequentially from a batch file (running under NT).
But I know from the UNIX's CRONtab you can start several instances of MRTG
at the same time.
At least I did it in the past when I was running MRTG under Solaris.
In case you cfg files are too big, split them in smaller parts.

Rgds

Peter

PS: I don't have anything against UNIX as it's a wonderfull environment for
many things.

Lazy, I work on UNIX, hell yes I am lazy, but seriously, I was just thinking
of times when you have 25 routers, 15 switches, plus all the servers, then
every time I want to graph a new mib object, I have to create a new config
file, blah blah blah, just looking at ways to simplify things...

Lazy ?
May copy paste would be enough even on a Unix system...

Thinks for sending out the sample config file. Is there a way to specify
multiple hosts all at once? That way you dont have to retype the code for
each switch... i.e, can you list multiple ips or something like that?

Does this work properly if you have dual supervisor cards? Will it pickup
the second one when it becomes primary?

 John,
the way MRTG works is that it requires 2 variables..it will always graph
two variables. For CPU load, you only need to graph one variable. So in
order to do that in MRTG you just tell MRTG to graph the same variable.

that you loaded the same OID twice in a row, is that intentional? Would
these be the OID numbers needed to monitor CPU utilization on, let's say a
2600 or 7200 router?

Here's the configuration I used to get mine to build the mrtg.cfg file
(works great).

# /usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/cfgmaker --global 'IconDir: /mrtgicons/' --global
'WorkDir: /home/www/htdocs/sog/mrtg/cisco/6509'
--global 'options[_]: bits' --ifref=ip --ifdesc=descr --show-op-down
--descint public at 10.200.52.1

IconDir: /mrtgicons/
WorkDir: /home/www/htdocs/sog/mrtg/cisco/6509
options[_]: bits

I had to 'hand-build' this config file to monitor cpu...

IconDir: /mrtgicons/
WorkDir: /home/www/htdocs/sog/mrtg/cisco/6509cpu
