Hi Roman,
If it's a UNIX machine, use net-snmp and use:
enterprises.ucdavis.laTable.laEntry.laLoadInt.2
.1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.10.1.5.2
It's not CPU utilization, but rather load average, which is probably a
better way to keep track of the actual processor load the machine is on
(regardless of the number of processes). It's also the load in integer
form, so it's the load multiplied by 100 to get better accuracy (since
MRTG doesn't handle decimals)
You can grab CPU utiliztion using a couple of ways (such as iostat or
mpstat in Solaris), but CPU utilization alone typically grabs CPU
utilization for that moment, so it really doesn't tell what's been going
on between those checks.
laLoad.2 is a 5 minute average, and works perfectly with MRTG since it
checks every 5 minutes. It will more accurately reflect what was going on
on the machine between MRTG checks.
Hope that helps,
Tony
