In my experience lots of consumer-grade NAT devices (not really routers)
like Linksys, SMC, etc broadband and wireless gateways tend to only respond
to management-type traffic (telnet, web, snmp) coming from the internal
interface. So unless you're on the RFC1918 address space of the internal
interface it might be ignoring your queries. That's assuming your device
even has SNMP.

Anyone know if you can use mrtg with the Linksys 4 port router? I tried
setting it up but couldn't get a response from snmp.
