The config is was screwed up. The extra .1 at the end
is the interface number. If you use -ifref="desc" or
something like that, you'll probably end up with
PageTop[199.99.204.1.Frame] (or whatever the
description of that interface is).
If you look at the mrtg.cfg, wass there:
Title[199.99.204.1.1]
MaxBytes[199.99.204.1.1]
target[199.99.204.1.1]
before you modified the config? You left the PageTop
info in there, so I would suspect you deleted the
rest of the .1 interface above it (PageTop gets added
last by cfgmaker).
I'm guessing you thought you knew better than MRTG
and removed the extra .1. Common mistake. Rerun
cfgmaker and don't delete anything in the config.
Only put in your workdir to get something going.
Run MRTG three times. After the third time, you
should get no errors. The first time, you'll get
an error because no .log exists. The second time,
you'll get an error because no .old exists. The
third time should be the charm. You can run all three
right after one another to get going quickly. Once
you've done that, schedule it to run every five
minutes or use some combination of Mr. Daemon,
Firedaemon, or whatever you are comfortable with.
Report back to us after you've done that.

MRTG Experts,
I was told about the program by my ISP, WorldCom, and I've downloaded and installed the right parts, I think. Now I'm trying to get it to work, and would like to ask your help.
I'd like to check our internet usage, we have a full T1 line and I
suspect we could be using a 384K fractional T1. The only reports I can
get from MCI-Worldcom, is a weekl average. Any average that includes
night and time that we're not using the service is useless.
I assume I should be monitoring traffic thru the router, Is this correct?
I'm trying to run it on Windows NT 4. My router static IP is: 199.99.204.1
I've installed Perl, I've installed MRTG, I ran the config program; perl
cfgmaker public at 199.199.204.1 --global "WorkDir: c:\test\mrtg" --output
mrtg.cfg
Problem/Question: Is this correct? When I look at the mrtg.cfg, I typed
this in,but I don't understand why there is an extra set of numbers in
thr IP address, and I don't know if it's correct:
PageTop[199.99.204.1.1]
When I try it, I type: perl mrtg mrtg.cfg I get this error:
WARNING: "Title[199.99.204.1]" not specified
WARNING: "MaxBytes[199.99.204.1]" not specified
WARNING: I can't find a "target[199.99.204.1]" definition
ERROR:Please fix the errors in your config file
Can someone help me understand this error and/or help me set this up
correctly? ping works for 199.99.204.1
gracias,
bill ferguson
