For multiple devices across subnets, I have an external box look IN at
them... if your mrtg box is not multi-home for all subnets, you will only be
able to see the device on YOUR subnet.

If the mrtg box can ping the box you want to monitor, there should be no
problem.

Basically, to be able to monitor a router, yoy just need to be able to reach
it (network-wise), and have the community string for it.
