[mrtg] Unexpected results

Ok, my current version of CatOS on my Cisco 2950 does not support 64-bit
counters, so I wanted to create a graph that showed me how often the counter
wrap occurred on a gigabit uplink.  I used gauge so that I get the actual
number of octets reported, not any calculated bits/sec or octets/sec.  Here
is a snip from my config file:

Which produced the attached graph (attachment will be saved as a link on the
bottom of this email).

Why am I seeing flatlines???  This is totally inconsistent with what I
expected to see.  This is the only uplink to the network on a switchport
with around 40 users on it.  Can anyone help me explain these results?
