It seems clear from what you originally wrote that you are possibly using
the wrong community string. You'll have to dig into your server (the one
you want to query) and use that on the command line on the system you run
cfgmaker.

Hello Jim,

its a good tutorial! But it's for Windows :-(.

And I am running Red Hat 7.3 here!

I tried all IPs I can find about the machine and it never responds to SNMP.
This is weired! How can I setup SNMP correctly and more important - how can
I test it myself?

Big thanks!

Regards,

Dirk G.

You can review the "MRTG for Dummies" tutorial which has the exact
command to use with cfgmaker to get a basic cfg file.

Also, you might consider downloading GetIF to see if you can get an SNMP
response of the device to verify that SNMP is indeed working and you
know the right community string.

You can find both things at my website http://www.netmon.org <-shamless
website promotion.

Hello!

I can't get mrtg to run :(.

When I start cfgmaker I get this error:

--base: Get Device Info on private at 127.0.0.1:
SNMP Error:
no response received

But SNMP is running! I am behind a router/firewall and everything is
open!
I tried it with public at 127.0.0.1 too and it doesnt work also.

My ifconig looks like this:

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
          RX packets:374 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:374 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:37762 (36.8 Kb) TX bytes:37762 (36.8 Kb)

venet0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP BROADCAST RUNNING NOARP MASTER MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:141956 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:140899 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:19181280 (18.2 Mb) TX bytes:23690727 (22.5 Mb)

venet0:0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00
          inet addr:62.75.xx.xx Bcast:0.0.0.0 Mask:255.255.255.255
UP BROADCAST RUNNING NOARP MASTER MTU:1500 Metric:1

Can anyone tell me the right command to execute cfgmaker?

Thanks guys :(. I dont know how to fix this.

Thanks,

Regards,

Dirk G.
