[mrtg] RRDTool Installation request for help

Greetings;
 
I'm trying to install RRDTool onto a win2K box. I'm following basic
installation instructions, but encounter this error:
 
C:\rrdtool-1.0.38>
C:\rrdtool-1.0.38>ppm install rrds.ppd
Failed to load PPM_DAT file
Can't use an undefined value as a SCALAR reference at
c:/perl/site/lib/PPM.pm line 1586, <DATA> line 36.

Any ideas?
Also, would I be better off installing this on a linux box?
