Firstly, you haven't said what the NIC is or what OS is running but let
me assume that you have a Happymeal interface and are running Solaris
2.6 or later. If you have an older Utra 1 or 2 it probably only has a
Lance interface which doesn't support 100Mb/s.
The Sun NICs have some problems with autonegotiation with some switches
(especially Cisco 65xx). You should also bear in mind that cheap or old
hubs cannot do more than 10Mb/s HDX and older router cards may not do
more than 10Mb/s FDX.
To check you NIC settings you need to run the following commands (as
root):
root:/ # ndd -set /dev/hme instance 0 [for hme0]
root:/ # ndd -get /dev/hme link_speed
1 [1 for 100, 0
for 10]
root:/ # ndd -get /dev/hme link_mode
1 [1 for FDX, 0
for HDX]
root:/ #
If the interface is not as above it is not doing 100MB/s FDX and you
need to adjust accordingly by running the appropriate ndd commands or
get network hardware that suppports 100FDX. I won't bore the list with
details here but if anyone wishes to know what we do to fix the problem
with our Cisco 6509 switch, please email me off-list.
