[mrtg] Get a IOD with a Syntax type ASCII

I am trying to monitor proprietary OIDs from a radio unit. I have been
able to walk the MIB with SNMP walk. A few of the OIDs I would like to graph
have a syntax type of ASCII characters(example: Value = 9.8E-07). Is it
possible to change the source code of rrdtool or perl to change from ASCII
to integer. MRTG rejects value and stops running, but prints it out at the
prompt anyways. As I read before, MRTG was not intended for a "integer
Value" to be simply plotted vs. time. This is the only circumstance that
restricts me from using MRTG in my network. Any Ideas ?
Thanks in advance,
Mike
