In re to your question, I had the exact same problem and RONAN PLANTEC
replied with the easiest fix which worked like a charm. "Try with
mrtg-2.9.17-3 (delivered with the RED HAT 7.3) instead of
mrtg-2.9.22-2..2.i386.rpm It should work better"   I do not know what is
wrong with the new release, but I could not get it to work either. Hope
this helps and thanks Ronan!!!

There is no "MRTG 2.9.22-2.7.2" so I guess you have to ask the
person that created this distribution.

cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla)

I've just downloaded the source straight from the home of mrtg
and it worked.  It is thus not an MRTG problem.

I guess your package was not built on RH7.3 and the dependencies
aren't setup properly.
