No, they are just regular cfg files. I haven't tries to take out the directory statements... never thought of that!
I would just try it. Run the main cfg from the command line and MRTG will complain if it needs those statements.

    It appears you are using RRD to store your data.  Do the other config
files (the ones that are part of the Include statements below) require any
changes or just use what is created via the MRTG cfgmaker... meaning do you
need to take out the directory statements in those config files since it's
in the master or should they be in all config files?

mrtg-rrd. I use routers2.cgi which I really like.
