[mrtg] compiling mrtg

Hi there, I am a new user of linux but I all ready had use the MRTG 
in a Windows plataform. I having some troubles trying to compile it on 
a linux red hat 8.0 every time I try to the following error is displayed

ERROR: Mrtg will most not work propperly when envirioment variable LANG 
is set to UTF-8. Please run mrtg in a environment where this is not the 
case:
  env LANG=C mrtg ....

 can some body please tell me what to do to sole this problem?
