[mrtg] problem with mrtg graphs

I did the mrtg installation using the following :
zlib-1.1.4.tar.gz
libpng-1.0.15.tar.gz
gd-1.8.4.tar.gz
mrtg-2.9.29.tar.gz
Server its installed on is running freebsd 4.7

I don't know where its getting the numbers its graphing....the below device 
is an adsl router not capable of those speeds.
an example of a graph :

(anything I have mrtg graph looks the same)

doing the same installation on a redhat server and a previous version of 
freebsd I've had no problems. Has anyone seen this happen and can you 
recommend any possible solutions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
