The values displayed will indeed be multiplied by 64 (8*8), the stored values in the rrd's will be multiplied by 8..

need a sanity check - i inherited some MRTG vlan config files and noticed they are multiplying each value by 8 and also are using the "bits" option - isnt this essentially multiplying the gathered value by 16? - see example below
