IP=what.ever.your.agents.ip \
/usr/bin/cfgmaker public@$IP \
  --global "workdir: /home/mrtg/public_html/$IP" \
  --output /etc/mrtg/$IP.cfg

there is no problem if you do know what '$1' means.
