[mrtg] Re: MRTG for Windows

I have MRTG installations on over 40 web farms and monitor hundreds of
Windows and Linux servers. I personally find Windows easier to install on
because that is my strongest skill set.

On Windows I can poll quite a bit of data using a combination of SNMP,
Perflogs and WMI scripts. On Linux I use SNMP, shell scripts and perl
scripts. Regardless of the MRTG platform, I also monitor firewalls, load
balancers and switches.

My suggestion is to get up to speed on the platform you're most familiar
with. Read the manual, scan the MRTG web site, you'll find a fair amount of
information running MRTG on Windows. If you're curious about your options on
Windows, I have a sample site running at
http://jpierini.homeip.net/mrtg/index2.html

Best of luck,

Joseph Pierini

Hi,

I would like to know how many people are using MRTG for Windows or should I
build a Linux box for MRTG.

Because almost all the documentation on the web are for Linux.

Please share your thoughts with me.

Thanks,
