If you are using routers.cgi as your frontend, then you need to upgrade to
v2.16 in order to have full RRDTool 1.2.x compatibility.  This also applies
to the trending plugin for routers.cgi.

Otherwise, it sounds as if you are getting the RRD race condition (update in
one time window, display in next).  routers.cgi has a workaround for this
that usually works.
