[mrtg] Multiple/single hyperthreaded CPUs have inconsistent polled value ranges

Hi, and happy holidays to all.
 

 

I am graphing the network usage on the CPU usage of about 15 different
servers.  Most have two hyperthreaded CPUs (creating 4 visible CPUs in
the "top" command), but some have only one hyperthreaded CPU (showing 2
CPUs).  There seems to be no consistency in how I poll these two types
of servers.

 

For the servers with two hyperthreaded CPUs, I divide the polled values
(in the config file, below) by 2, which creates an accurate looking CPU
graph (as far as I can tell).  For the servers with one hyperthreaded
CPU, I don't divide the polled values, but the values shoot off to over
100%, anyway, which creates flatlined graphs at about 87% usage.  Is
there a reason why I should be dividing both types of servers by 2?
What am I missing?
