Sebastiaan,

The message in the Windows eventviewer is normal. From the http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/mrtg-reference.html:
++++++
NOTE: Note, there is no Message DLL for mrtg included with mrtg. This has the side effect that the windows event logger will display a nice message with every entry in the event log, complaing about the fact that mrtg has no message dll. If you go to the mrtg contrib download area (on the website) you will find the mrtg-message-dll.zip which does contain such a thing.
++++++

About your graph not showing any data:
How many ipInHdrErrors do you expect?
By default MRTG calculates the rate per second. Values are rounded down.
In other words If your counter shows less then 300 in a 5 minute interval you will see 0 in your graph.
To avoid this you can use the "PerMinute" or "PerHour" option.
In cases of a very low incrementing counter you can even consider to use the Gauge option.
See http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~oetiker/webtools/mrtg/mrtg-reference.html for details.

Hth,

Jan.

Subject: [mrtg] event id 1000 : missing operator

Hi,

I am trying to get some counters from a Cisco 2950 Switch.

I have a config file like this :

Target[ip.ipInHdrErrors]:1.3.6.1.2.1.4.4.0 at 172.30.6.200:

MaxBytes[ip.ipInHdrErrors]:100

Ylegend[ip.ipInHdrErrors]:Errors

Title[ip.ipInHdrErrors]:IP Header Errors

PageTop[ip.ipInHdrErrors]:<H1>IP Header Errors</H1>

MRTG does start without any problems.

However, the counters i've add just didn't seem to be measured.

I checked the event viewer, and for all entry's the following item was listed :

Event Type:      Information

Event Source:   MRTG

Event Category:            None

Event ID:          1000

Date:                3-1-2005

Time:                10:02:19

User:                N/A

Computer:         ACC_SERVER01

Description:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( MRTG ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: ERROR: Target[cpu][_OUT_] '1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.58.0 at 172.30.6.200:' (warn): (Missing operator before ?).

Can anyone explain me what i have done wrong ?

Is the ":" neccessary behind the ip address of the monitored device ?
--> counter at ipaddress:

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sebastian van Dijk
