Wesley:

I converted my 6509 to running IOS. Might be worth looking at. Should
be easier to configure. I havent had a problem since then from
monitoring VLAN's.

Subject: [mrtg] Problem with monitoring VLANs on Catalyst 6509 switch

Hello,
I am having problems with monitoring all VLANs on a Catalyst 6509
switch. Evidently, I am able to monitor inbound bits for all of the
VLAN ports, HOWEVER I am getting zero values for outbound bits. Why?
The funny thing is that I am able to monitor all VLANs on the 6509
MSFC's (e.g. inbound and outbound) but not on the 6509 switch itself?
On the Cisco routers we are running IOS version 12.0 and on the Catalyst
6509 switch we are running CATOS version 8.3.

I used GetIf to see whether or not the VLAN ports recognize the mib
(e.g..1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16) for outbound bits. It appears that for all
of the VLANs the speed is zero? However other ports seem to have
subtantial speed values of 3875959910 or 8741183. Why?

Apparently after using GetIf for the mib (e.g. .1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16),
I am getting zero values for the all of the VLAN switch ports:
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.348 : 0 (vlan 2)
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.349 : 0 (vlan 4)
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.350 : 0 (vlan 5)
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.351 : 0 (vlan 30)
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.352 : 0 ....
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.353 : 0
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.354 : 0
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.355 : 0
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.356 : 0
interfaces.iftable.ifentry.ifOutOctets.357 : 0

I did an snmp walk on the entire 6509 switch to reference the particular
switch ports to the VLANs cited above:
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-2 --> 348
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-4 -->349
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-5 -->350
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-30 -->351
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-31 -->352
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-34-->353
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-37 -->354
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-36-->355
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN-38-->356
--snpo: confcache password at x.x.x.x: Name VLAN- 39 --> 357

          Wes
