[mrtg] getting bogus values from snmp ??

I recently installed mrtg (2.12.2,1) and snmp
(net-snmp-5.2.1.2) under FreeBSD -CURRENT.
After making what I though were appropriate chamges to the cfg
file, the program runs nicely ...
... with the exception that I don't believe the traffic numbers
reported. For one, the in and out values are identical; also they
(or at least the in count) are much lower than reasonable (count
varies between 250 and 1200 bits/sec, but one application alone
reports using ~ 15,000 bits/sec).
Before I go investigating the snmp side, I'd like to know I've
got mrtg behaving correctly. I've read the comments in the config
file and searched the FAG; I've also Googled what seem to be the
most interesting bits. My config file (minus comment lines) is
appended as it a sample entry when run with logging and debug=snpo.
	Help - please!
