[mrtg] can someone explain "workdir" please?

I know, that sounds like an RTFM question, and if so, I'm sorry. I've been
struggling for DAYS on this and I cannot find the info I need to get my
graphs to be updated properly (very frustrating, especially since I consider
myself a fairly educated person.)
I have mrtg running as a service on my work box, which is also running IIS.
I can not figure out the combination of cfgmaker/indexmaker commands to get
it to work properly. Here are my two commands (with names changed to protect
the innocent):
cfgmaker (run while in the mrtg/bin directory):
cfgmaker public at server01 public at serverdev01 public at servertest01
public at serversqldev public at serversqltest public at 10.10.194.122
public at 10.10.194.123 public at 10.10.156.213 --global "WorkDir:
c:\MyFiles\mrtg-2.12.2\workdir" --ifdesc=descr --output mrtg.cfg
indexmaker (also run while sitting in the mrtg/bin dir):
indexmaker --enumerate --output=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\mrtg\idx.html
--title="Server/Switch Activity" --subtitle="(click on graph for more
detail)" --show=day --columns=2 --nolegend
C:\MyFiles\mrtg-2.12.2\bin\mrtg.cfg
Whenever I view the idx.html webpage the graphs are never updated. So, I
guess I need to understand the "flow" of the files:
1. Does mrtg create the graphs in the workdir and then copy them over to the
web directory?
2. What is the default for "workdir" when I leave it off the cfgmaker
command line?
3. Is there any way to re-create the month/year images from existing log
files (I copied over the existing ones) :(
4. I have not looked into that RRD thingy, is this something that might
solve my problems or are they more basic than that?
Help me Obiwan Kenobi, you're my only hope!
TIA!
