This is not what MRTG does, so right off the bat, you are 
forcing a square peg into a round hole.

It's not obvious.  It would take 30 second to put in a cronjob 
to implement something like this.  It's not hard.

What is MRTG?  It's as much a 3rd party app as routers2 or 
cacti or cricket or any other polling solution.  RRDTool is 
just a backend.

Have you even *tried* using RRDTool as the backend and 
MRTG with interval set to 1?  MRTG is not going to do 1 
minute intervals, any time soon, if ever.

Hint:  It does what you are asking for, sort of.
