[mrtg] .log files gets reset automatically

Remember that if you delete all the .log files, and MRTG runs automatically every 5 minutes, then 5min after they are deleted the next run of MRTG will re-create them (empty).  If you also lose the *.old files then my guessis you have some over-zealous cleanup script running that deletes both *.log and *.old throughout the filesystem.  Check your periodic jobs that run around midnight.  This problem has occurred before for other users and been caused by this.

MRTG never deletes .log files, but it can create them.  So far, in my experience, whenever people find files disappearing then the problem is not an OS or hardware failure, but user error :)

Thanks for the warning, but wouldn't this  "find / -name *.log -exec rm {} \;" will delete all .log files. In my case, only few of them get deleted...Seems to me, it is either a disk failure or Os problem that is causing those files to get deleted, or mrtg is somehow delete my log file (also in the mean time .old file also gets deleted)
