[mrtg] .log files gets reset automatically

If it's on a unix box check that some one has not turned on log rotation for that directory. Are there log.0 etc file there?

  Do you have any periodic cronjobs running on your server that look for (and delete) any and all *.log files?  If so, they'd be deleted, and the next run of MRTG would recreate them as empty.

   

  If you do have such a job, severely. re-educate.  the person who wrote it, since doing a "find / -name *.log -exec rm {} \;" is just stupid coding.  It should be restricted to a specific tree that is known to be safe.

  For the last 2-3 months at midnight Central Time (GMT+6)  I started havind some of my .log files started to be reset without my intention. Is there a reason for that? I assumed first because my .log file size reaches a limit but some of the .log files arent't even 100K big.
