[rrd-developers] modify entry with rrdtool update?

Hi,

Thanks for the great tool. I just started using it and I am excited 
about it.

One thing, I need to modify some value at some timestamp and I couldn't. 
I searched the maillist archive found the similar topic, and seems the 
only solution is to dump it into XML and manually modify it and convert 
it back to rrd.

I wonder why don't you guys make it so that "rrdtool update" could do 
the same thing automatically?

I need to "update" the value programmatically? How can I do that?

And do you have a C language API? That will be fantastic.
