Hi Tobi!

Please keep in mind during this discussion that you (and all you others
who have helped Tobi) have created a fantastic work that is being in
use in a lot of companies all over the world!

The use of files for RRD-data has been also very "scalable" and
flexible in the very sense that it is only our imagination, smartness
(and money :-) that has limited scaling RRD during these years.

RRD is in use on small home pc's with just a few targets.  RRD is in
use on larger companies with more than 500k targets using pools of
polling machines, writers, disk farms and web-servers.

Any other way of doing this may not have been able to scale and grow as
fast during these years.
