well there are two things

a) the first graph seems to be generated with rrdtool 1.0.x
   so there is bound to be some change in spacing since the
   fonts are different since 1.2

b) the layout in the 1.3 graph seems bad ... the labels should not
   run into eachother .... will look at this ...
