Hi All,
We are using RRD to store data captured from router every 5 min and the
intention is to do curve fitting for predictive analysis.
Is it similar to trending that Scott is talking about ?? Scott, can I have
more info on trending?
Thanks
- Manoj

I have started to track load data as well, and originally had the same
plan for keeping both AVERAGE, and MAX.
i ended up abolishing the idea for a few reasons.
1) load peaks have no limit (compared to bandwidth). when you start to
try and display averages and peaks on the same graph, the peaks can really
make the other data meaningless. this can be fixed by tinkering with
upper limits when making the graph if desired tho.
2) do you really care what the peak load average was 2 weeks ago? i
originally thought it would be useful, but after i implemented it, i
realized that just seeing the averages was good enough for historical
purposes. but my goal was trending.
3) since the load is already an average, it takes some time (>1 week)to
even see major differences between peak, and average.
