Nope, as if you had set GAUGE.
You should be able to view the current settings using "rrdtool info".
You can change them to COUNTER using "rrdtool tune".

Use the most recent version of RRDtool.
Perhaps you're using an older version and you converted the MRTG log
files to an RRD using the program distrinuted with it. If so, this
script does leave the RRD with GAUGE counters as it has no knowledge
of the real setting. This is documented behaviour (again: if you did
use that program!)
The newest RRDtool converts MRTG logfiles to RRD files without much
manual intervention other than modifying the MRTG config file.
