I don't understand why you think you can retrieve 5-minute samples...
You write it yourself: the part of the RRD that lasts 12.5 days has
30-minute samples ?!? You are right in saying that there is only 50
hours worth of 5-minute samples. If you go back further than 50 hours,
the next RRA is choosen and thus you can't have 5-minute samples.
