It seems to me that this is the way that your system is displaying NaN.

Next time when you report something, make sure to include:
- OS type and version
- RRDtool version
- any other relevant information

How do you get these NaN figures?  Probably because your updates are
too far apart.  They should be at most <heartbeat> seconds apart.
