I don't know what application you're using for data collection, but, using
MRTG without the RRD option set up, creates log files that are basically
standard text files. These can then be copied onto the machine where you
want to graph the RRD databases. If you then run MRTG on the destination
machine with the RRD option set up, but without the "runasdaemon" option,
the copied log files will be converted into RRD databases, in the correct
format for the relevant architecture, which can then be used to create the
desired graphs.

I am fairly new to rrd myself, but it seems from what I disccussed
with a friend, that files are achitecture dependent.

One solution would be to maintain all rrd files on your web server. Of
course it means the web server has rights to poll data from the other
machines.
