The dump/restore mechanism should work however if the format has
changed (it probably did so many times) it may be possible that
you run into problems.  It shouldn't happen but it might.

Try dump and restore on each platform, so restore a dumped file
on the same platform.  If that works out properly and if you don't
have a version difference, you've discovered a bug.
